My name is Gabriela (yes, with one “L”), I am just writing here, because… Why not? I want to post articles about things that I think about every day. Things that everyone feels at least once. I want to be a soundboard, I also want to give advice. Mainly, I want to get things off my chest, and feel human. If that’s something you would like to read about, Welcome! But first I want to introduce myself.
I am a senior in college. I study at one of the best journalism schools in the nation, and to be honest… It is hard! I recently got accepted into law school, which made me feel pretty good.
Now that you know about my college status, I want to talk a little about what it means to be in school, specifically, how it feels to be a senior in college.
It is definitely not as exciting as high school, that’s for sure. You think about your future a lot. You had four years to figure out your career and everyone keeps asking you the same question: “What are you doing after college?”…
“Dear Susan, I’m only 22 years old. Am I supposed to have life figured out by now?”
Twenties is a weird age. Some friends graduate and become adults, others have babies, others get married, and sometimes you feel stuck. You want to graduate, but you are scared of what’s coming next… “what if…”
- What if you don’t like your job?
- What if you don’t make as much money?
- What if you just wasted four years of your life?
Fudge! It’s hard! How many feel like this? I know I do a lot. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do, but what if it’s different once I leave college?
I’m going to tell you what. It’s going to be okay. It is totally normal to feel this way. So many things are happening so fast. I mean, it feels like yesterday when you moved in to your dorm your first year. But at the same time, you are ready to leave. You want to make money, you want to travel, you want to have a family… There are so many dreams outside of college.
Sometimes it makes me feel old knowing I’m going to be a grad student soon. But then I think about all the things I want to do in life. There is so much to do outside of college. Embrace the two months you have left, and be hopeful of what’s coming next… You’re not alone. All to-be-graduates feel the same way.
Loves!
